Competitors come from all over the world to follow the 50 nautical mile course each year around the Isle of Wight.
The 2017 Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, will take place on Saturday 1st July and will provide the chance for first-time racers to compete against Olympians and record breaking sailors on equal terms.
The race regularly attracts over 1,700 boats and 16,000 sailors making it one of the largest yacht races in the world. It is the fourth largest annual participation sporting event in the UK, after the London Marathon and the Great North and South Runs.
It's well worth taking part or just watching from afar - friends, family and sailing fans can follow the race using GPS tracking - and it's spectacular to see the yachts come round the Isle of Wight on the home stretch.
More details and entry information are available from the Round the Island Race website.
