We have recently received reports of powered craft leaving the harbour limits at speed and without due consideration for the effects of wash on dinghy sailing activities.

One of the reported events resulted in a man over board as a direct result of the wash created by a passing craft.

While creating excessive wash within harbour limits is a breach of the General Directions 2014 and may result in prosecution, the same hazards are posed outside of harbour waters and all boat owners are asked to exercise good seamanship by keeping a lookout and moderating speed and wash where small boats are likely to be impacted.
