Relocation of Tar Barrel Navigation Beacon

07 March 2017

LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS No. 4 of 2017

Notice is hereby given that with immediate effect the ‘Tar Barrel’ starboard navigation beacon (pile) has been relocated approximately 10m east from its previous position.

This aid to navigation has been moved because the bend in the navigation channel in this area is one of the most constrained parts of the river for navigation. The relocation takes advantage of some naturally deeper water supported by capital dredging to reinstate and align the channel margins from the upstream mark (Pylewell Boom) and the downstream mark (No. 7) with ‘Tar Barrel’ in its new location.

The new location co-ordinates for ‘Tar Barrel’ are as follows:

New Location (WGS84):               Lat: 050⁰ 44.813 N Long: 001⁰ 31.091 W
Characteristics (Unchanged):     Starboard Beacon (Post G, Conical G)    Fl G 2s
